Fallout: Wasteland Warfare second edition goes solo-first
Modiphius is rebuilding Fallout: Wasteland Warfare for a second edition built around solo play, with two starter sets, plastic Vault Dwellers and a simpler game.
Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is getting a rebuild. Modiphius revealed its second-edition starter sets in a press release on 4 March 2026 and has been running a developer blog series since, with the latest entry (#18) on 23 October 2026. The pitch is a streamlined game that puts solo play first.
What's changing
Modiphius describes the new edition as streamlined and solo-play first, while Battle Mode, the versus play, is still supported in the core rulebook. Fewer tokens and cards, a roster sheet in place of model cards, and a simplified AI system are all on the list. Dev Blog #18 looks at the new model profiles for heroes, companions and followers, and at simplified AI enemy profiles.
Two starter sets
- Into the Wasteland Solo Starter Set: the solo way in.
- Warbands Starter Set: for two players, with PVC survivor and super mutant models, tokens, cardboard scenery, the core rulebook and a reference book.
The first new miniatures are two multi-part plastic Vault Dweller sets, four male and four female. Modiphius is also planning Encounter Boxes of pre-assembled PVC models for an easy start, and a Wasteland Compendium of regional rules due in early 2027.
About those dates
The original March release gave launch timing that has since moved. Modiphius's own store now lists the Into the Wasteland Starter Set & Dogmeat with Goggles as shipping from February 2027, and the Warbands Starter Set from June 2027. Those are Modiphius's current dates, and we haven't seen an announcement explaining the change, so check Modiphius's listings for the latest.
We haven't seen Modiphius confirm how first-edition models fit into the new edition, so we won't say either way. We'll update this post when it does.
