Bolt Action's French plastics: Foreign Legion, the French 75 and a starter army

A new book is only half the story. Alongside Armies of France, Warlord Games announced a set of new plastic French kits for Bolt Action on 28 August 2026, when pre-orders opened. As of 27 October, Warlord's store still lists them as pre-orders.

Three new plastic kits

• French Foreign Legion Platoon: includes sniper and anti-tank options.
• French Army Heavy Weapons Platoon: a Hotchkiss M1914 medium machine gun, a medium mortar and two types of light mortar.
• French Army 75mm Light Artillery: the famous "French 75", with three wheel variants.

Warlord says this is the first Bolt Action book to arrive with plastic artillery and heavy weapons, rather than a plastic vehicle, which is a different way to launch a range. Artillery and support weapons are usually what makes an army feel like itself on the table, so it's good to see them in plastic.

Hold the Line! French Starter Army

The starter army is all plastic and built around a 1939–40 defensive force. Warlord describes it as having no vehicles, a larger infantry core than other starter armies, and plenty of support firepower. That suits the "dig in and hold" feel of the 1940 campaign: you're not racing across the table, you're picking your ground.

Warlord's store lists the Foreign Legion Platoon and the Armies of France range as pre-orders "due to be released November 2026". That's Warlord's date, from its store rather than the announcement, so check the listing for the latest.
