Bolt Action's Armies of France gives France a book of its own
Warlord Games' Armies of France for Bolt Action: Third Edition covers the French army of 1939–40, the Vichy Armistice Army and the Free French, with a Marie-Pierre Kœnig miniature.
French players in Bolt Action have long made do with sharing the stage. Warlord Games introduced Armies of France for Bolt Action: Third Edition on 28 August 2026, and it's the first Bolt Action book devoted entirely to France. Warlord has been following it up with a run of Intelligence Reports through October (14, 20 and 23 October).
Three armies, one book
The book has three army lists:
- French army, 1939–40
- Vichy Armistice Army
- Free French (Forces of Liberation)
That's three quite different flavours from a single book, and the Vichy and Free French forces can face one another across the table. Two Resistance units are in the Free French list; Warlord says the fuller Resistance and Partisan list is planned for Armies of Europe, a few months down the line.
The miniature
The book comes with a Marie-Pierre Kœnig miniature. Kœnig was the last Marshal of France, and commanded the Free French at Bir Hakeim in 1942. The product is called Armies of France and Marie-Pierre Kœnig Book & Miniature.
A taste of what's inside
The Intelligence Reports give some colour on the contents without giving away the book: national special rules, Vichy units built to counter the Resistance, an updated Moroccan Goumier Section, a new Dragons Portés VB group, and British cruisers in French service. Warlord also notes that Armies of France was flagged back in February, as part of its schedule of books through the year.
When
Warlord Games' own shop lists the book as a pre-order, "due to be released November 2026". That date is Warlord's store listing rather than something from the announcement blog, so treat it as Warlord's and check the listing for the latest.
